In some cases, absolutely required (I used to live in such a place). Changing out the windows for something modern would have ruined the facade. We have wooden frames encasing double glazed units - from the street you simply could not tell.
In other cases....not so much. I could see *maybe* requiring that a certain style/colour is used, but that's about it. Maybe rather than uPVC (some of which can be absolutely boggin'), composite frames could be used?
Preserving history is important, but so is living.
Either way, I wouldn't risk fitting the wrong thing and the potential £5k fine.
Have you considered appealing the listing? Are you 100% sure it is listed and the grade? Sometimes it is more about the look (even when listed). |
