| Comment | Orange Order celebrate the Glorious Revolution of the late 17thC whereby Dutch King William of Orange was invited to Britain/Ireland to overthrow Catholic King James. William won and he and (unbelievably!) James’ daughter ascended the throne.
They march to commemorate this era and the Battle of the Boyle which basically ended any chance of James/allies regaining control of Britain and Ireland.
You get marches across Scotland, although mostly Central Belt, NI/ROI, parts of England, Commonweath countries like Canada and Australia, and even in some Western African nations. |
