I commuted from Glasgow to Edinburgh by train for 10 weeks spread across last year - so it wasn’t a continuous thing, but still a fair few times. It was just about manageable for me as it was in one week blocks and there was end in sight - but I couldn’t do it indefinitely. I know others who have tried, and surrendered to living in Edinburgh within a few months.

I never had difficulty getting a seat, getting on at Queen St (although the trains do get really busy later on the line). The cost is huge, but the thing that got to me the most was the complete waste of time. It impacted on my quality of life massively, as I felt like I was too exhausted to do anything in the evenings, and ended up going to bed early as I had to wake up so early in the morning. We’re all different though, I’m sure some people wouldn’t be as affected by this as I was.

So I wouldn’t exactly recommend it, but I’m sure you can do it if you have to.
