36k is the average UK wage. I know this is obviously inflated somewhat due to London, but a couple on an average wage can get a 200k house and it doesn't mean they're particularly well off or "rich". 200k isn't a massive amount for a couple and especially not if they want to have a family.

I'm on 46k a year at the moment which might sound like being well off or above average, but as a single person looking for a house, I'm budgeting for only £130k for buying a house. And a 130k house sees me paying over £700 a month for mortgage only with current mortgage rates.
