I grew up similar. Started mma at 28, now do muay Thai weekly at 35. I won't be winning any trophies anytime soon but I'm definitely not the same kid who was terrified of everything at 17.

Taking the first step is the scariest. But being punched in the face is a humbling experience. All the lads you spar with become like brothers. It's a phenomenal experience.

You can do it! Don't be intimidated! I promise your self confidence will be through the roof after a few boxing sessions.

Edit And you can be gentle, cultured and do boxing. Doing boxing doesn't mean you are uncultured or a thug. Boxing is a beautiful sport that requires a decent amount of iq and intellect.
