| Comment | Concerts/gigs are cheaper. Plus loads more acts come here. You travel for four hours on a plane here you're in Europe. Travel for four hours in Australia you're still in Australia. Distances here are much smaller. Genuinely the schooling here is better. Fruit and veg aren't seasonal because it's easier to import stuff. No cyclone in Queensland is taking away your banana toast.
And, although this thread isn't showing it, but Glaswegians are a far, far nicer group of people than Australians. There is a whole attitude shift here. Street harassment in Australia is out of control. King hits - random drunken cowardly cruelty. Sure it _can_ happen here, it happens everywhere, but not to the scale of Australia. Australians can be cold, disingenuous, pretentious, class obsessed no marks puffing up their own nations importance and for what? Glasgow has a quality you'll not find anywhere else. It's friendly and small enough to feel safe but it's electric and exciting at the same time.
Get them to watch Burnistoun, Limmy, Still Game and Chewing the Fat. Get their ear into the accent (and the humour) early and if you need help when you get here give us a shout. |
