Weegie transplant now living in Japan. Its 100% a tiger mosquito. They congregate around stagnant water of any amount, so that could be a puddle outside, a bucket full of water, or a clogged gutter. They go out around 8pm to search for a blood meal to properly get their eggs fed before being laid in said stagnant water.

I imagine this wee bastard was out earlier than 8 though, considering Scotland is far colder than Japan. They don't fare well with wind, or direct sun and very high temperatures. When it gets to the upper 20s here, after sundown, the wee arseholes are fucking everywhere, especially indoors! Sleeping is a nightmare, but you just need a big mosquito net propped round your bed and you're sound.

I'm amazed to see one in Scotland, though. Could have managed to stow away on some fruit from abroad, perhaps. Life cycle involves three weeks as an adult, plenty of time to survive transport, since they don't really feed like we do. They only have a 200 meter zone they'll wander around in from their chosen breeding grounds, so they've probably just wandered in through an open door or window. They don't infest in the same way something like a termite or a cockroach would.

Anyway, hope that was educational.
