| Comment | Most of Anderson was earmarked as a comprehensive redevelopment zone. It was going to get demolished anyway, irrespective of the road.
(Case in point, the tenements in the foreground of the photo are gone now, even though the road is already built)
I'm not arguing that this was the right course of action, we now know refurbishing tenements is a good solution. But at the time, many ranked amongst the worst slums in Europe and something had to be done. |
