Very lenient sentence but it seems there may have been some factors that are being sensationalised.


The article says she was stabbed, but the report indicates he struck her on the back with a knife.


He water boarded her with water from a kettle, but it was described as warm water rather than hot. There's also dispute over how long this torture took place.


The victim didn't report to the police, which could be due to fear or because there's more to this crime and the victim's evidence is not sufficient to obtain a conviction of a more serious crime.


I think his solicitor will have argued that he intended to cause fear and alarm, but his crimes amounted to no more than assault.


The difference between what the prosecutor describes and the article reports is stark.
