| Comment | Glasgow used to have a high murder rate (for Europe) and stabbing rate. Major work was done on many of the problems that caused this and the rates fell dramatically. It has its problems like everywhere else but is a friendly safe city overall.
Being a black woman here shouldn’t be a problem. Like everywhere there are racist assholes about, but thankfully not many. Glasgow is relatively diverse, but since Glasgow and Strathclyde universities have good reputations, there are lots of overseas students that go to them, so the universities are more diverse above Glasgow as a whole.
You also won’t have issues meeting people. You’ll have those who you share classes with, and universities have clubs (sometimes called societies depending on the club) for a vast array of interests, so you can meet people that way. And Scots are just friendly. We talk to everyone!
The shirt colour thing is about football (soccer. Please call it football while your here). Two team in Glasgow have a massive rivalry. They are Celtic (green and white) and Rangers (blue with some red and white). There are always some idiot fans who are up for fighting each other. So generally don’t go out wearing either of their strips of match day and you’re good. Actually, just don’t get into the teams at all and it’s better! |
