Please make sure you have acommodation organised, or you might end up commuting in from East Kilbride, or somewhere as far out. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with East Kilbride or any of the outskirts, but you want the Glasgow experience.

Be prepared for the weather. It will be colder than you're used to, and more changeable . The old joke goes that if you don't like Scottish weather, wait 15 minutes.

One one level these series do draw on a variety of stereotypes and memes. If you understand the language (in Rab C nesbit especially ) then the dialect in Glasgow will hold no terrors. On the other level if you say you researched Scottish culture by watching Rab C Nesbit it will be an effective icebreaker.

I realise that these recommendations will show that I am old.
