| Comment | Glasgow is a great place, and I’m sure you’d have a good time. But it isn’t the easiest place to get out of if you wanted to do a bit of travelling in your spare time. Scotland is great and there’s lots to see, but over winter the weather is shit and everything closes outwith the big cities eg little museums and tourist attractions in the Highlands and Islands.
If you have an opportunity to go somewhere in Europe like Germany, France, Italy, Austria, you’d find it a lot easier to get a train to lots of other countries to do some sightseeing. You can easily get to Prague, Budapest, Milan, Geneva, Amsterdam, Brussells, Paris, Berlin and loads more on the train from southern Germany for example.
Just a thought if you have the money and time to do lots of weekend sightseeing and that’s what you want to do. It’d be better and easier from Europe.
That said, you can still fly to quite a few countries from Edinburgh and Glasgow so it’s not like you’d be totally isolated. But your options for cheap flights are more limited than they used to be and a lot of routes no longer operate.
If you do get to Glasgow I’m sure you’ll have a great time. I wouldn’t worry about getting a hard time off anyone - you’ll be grand. |
