Have worked in London and Birmingham whilst living in Glasgow. 5 days away, 2 days at home. Lasted a couple of years

Hotels get old *fast*, expenses limits don't cover your outlays, weekends are just cleaning and laundry, and the whole thing is just draining. I ended up quitting.

400miles will take about 36l of fuel and cost you £~55 (not sure about electric costs). 3.5 hours each way (allowing for stops and traffic), how much is your time worth? Next is the extra wear and tear on your vehicle which will mean more regular servicing and parts, plus more attention paid to your tyres. Your insurer will also probably need informed.

I wouldn't do it unless the company was covering all costs, provided a decent per diem, and it was infrequent, say two days as a block in a fortnight.
