You know you only start paying it back when you earn above a certain threshold? Even then, it's a barely noticeable amount, like 6% or something. I'd really consider it before it's too late to apply for one unless you're willing to work weekends and evenings somewhere to get by. £1000 is just your bursary, you'll get like £90 odd a month from it too rather than all at once.
