There's heaps of customer service jobs here, and there's an overabundance of super markets here as well so possibly check a few weeks in advance, once you know where you'll be staying.

As for apartments/flats, if you want anything that's a bit bigger, I'd recommend southside, some areas have a bit of a bad reputation from the past, but most of those have gentrified rather nicely. On top of rent (AVG £550/1000nzd a month), there's also council tax, which can range anywhere from £100 to £170 a month for about 90% of places (I don't think of the other 10%, as I dare not touch the sun.). A monthly bus ticket will usually be about. If you plan to explore a lot, I recommend getting a zone card with 2 or 3 zones http://www.spt.co.uk/travelcards/zonecard/ . There's also plenty of city bike locations, but you'll not want to be exposed to the elements here all the time.
