All the rail gates in Scotland are Cubic gates - the main issue is the cost to install and run a system like that, and the fact that (unlike London) loads of Scottish stations are ungated, so there's a question of what to charge people or "reserve on their cards" when they first tap. You tap a gate at Queen St and you might be going to High St or Wick.

Agree that it would be great to have something like that, but the cost to underwrite it could be crippling (especially with all these bastards trying to skip the fare from Partick 😂)
