If you're coming from any station without barriers to central/queen Street, any ticket for that day will get you through the barriers. I recently got a train from Pitlochry to Queen St without a ticket, avoided getting checked on the train then bought a £2 day single from Charing Cross to Queen Street to get through the barriers
