One of the cheaper towns I'd say is Coatbridge. You can get a decent 1 or 2 bedroom flat in your price range (and possibly cheaper), you're only 11 miles to Glasgow City centre and have 6 train stations that will get you to the city centre.

Coatdyke, Coatbridge Sunnyside and Blairhill all take you to Glasgow Queen Street and run every 15 minutes.

Coatbridge Central, Whifflet and Kirkwood all take you to Glasgow Central and run every half an hour.

A taxi into town during the day will cost about £16 and if you're out socialising during the night it'll cost around £25.

People, especially the posh wanks from town, like to shit on Coatbridge for being a hellhole, but the truth is, it isn't that bad a place to live and is certainly much better than a lot of areas in Glasgow are. And certainly much cheaper than town as well. It is (IMO) the best connected commuter town on the outskirts of Glasgow.
