| Comment | Nah you're both equally on the hook, Council doesn't want to get involved in Flatmate disputes like this, all they care about is getting paid. Generally, the consequences of not paying make it so that gritting your teeth and paying the whole thing is usually the least bad option.
If I were you, I'd see if you can get any discounts, pay whatever is being asked, keep a record of every payment, start looking for a new flatmate (cause honestly, can you really rely on a guy who'd stick you with that bill so he can go to a f\*\*king festival?) and once you're rid of the freeloader, take him to Small Claims for the amount he owes you in back Council Tax. If he won't pay up you can at least screw with his credit and generally make his life a hassle which ought to give you a little satisfaction. |
