We don’t have a factor. 2/6 flats are owned by housing association, 2 are privately owned and last 2 are shops at street level. Housing association paid up no questions asked for communal repairs, 18 months later and were still waiting for money from the others.

I started off nice as pie with them all, real optimistic that we could improve the communal areas but I’m sick to the back teeth of all of them now because we put loads of work and money into improving it and they don’t cough up after saying they will and then continue to mess up areas we’ve tried to fix / clean / improve.

The conclusion I’ve arrived at is that we like our flat, the mortgage is affordable for us, and if it means over paying for communal stuff then I’ll just have to try to get over it.

My partner is much more easy going about it than me. I’d be ready to have arguments with them all if I had half the chance but I’m trying to be zen.

So do with that what you will! If you’re like my partner and you like the flat enough then it’s worth it. Don’t touch it with a barge pole if it’s already out of your budget and you have a short fuse.
