I'd argue doing some odd things around the skate park is actually safer. I frequent KG skate park a lot, and we have all kinds of characters appear and do all sorts of out of the ordinary activities in spaces around it. Skate culture embraces weirdness like that, and it's mostly met with acceptance and curiosity, nobody would let someone harrass you there.
