CV plan is worth a try, but a lot of places that advertise vacancies in the shop window will also tell you to apply on their websites. It's still worth walking around and just making a note of who's hiring. House of Cashmere on Gordon Street is ALWAYS hiring but I suspect that's because they only offer minimum wage but demand experience.

Someone else mentioned call centres and there are a ton of them around town. Esure, Direct Line and Teleperformance are all pretty much next door to each other on Cadogan Street. I will begrudgingly admit from experience that Esure isn't the WORST place to work, by call centre standards. Kura are also constantly hiring and seem to take on anyone who can show up with their shirt on the right way up.
