* Sponge - 50p
* Mould killer - £4 at most
* Water - Free
* Paint - Either free (if they have old stuff that is still good) or up to £15 for a small tin made to match
* Paint brush - £1
* Paint tray with rollers - £5
* Drop sheet - Free, use an old bed sheet like everyone else

Total materials cost ~£25 (and much of this they will have on had, so it will cost less).

What is going to bite is labour, and this is a two-visit job. Once to clean and apply the mould killed, once to paint. It's barely 10mins work each time, but it's travelling twice. No need to hire a tradesman, this is totally DIYable.

At, say £40 per hour that's _maybe_ £20 for the work and at absolute most another £40 to cover travel.

Total for the work £85, and that's on the high side.

Now the question is, did you cause this? Are you liable? The answer is almost certainly "No", unless (as others have said) you've been a big silly. There may be a ventilation issue in that room, maybe the window seals have failed, maybe the bricks need repointed, maybe, maybe, maybe....

So tell the landlord to ram their bill up their arse and appeal. You are not liable for wear and tear, you are not liable for failing building fabric.

If they were asking for £60 I'd let it go for a quiet life, but they want £150 and so they can fuck right off with £0.
