As someone who actually keeps Highland bulls and sheep, I'd rather people didn't go into my fields and interfere with them. Go stand at the fence or dyke, and if they come to you then fair enough (cows are quite inquisitive, so they might come and say hello). But please don't go into fields with the intention of approaching them. You will only scare the sheep and won't get near them.
