I, too, am a southside person. I took a couple of tests at Shieldhall and failed. I got myself a new instructor who recommended I take my test in Anniesland (this was before covid, when it was fairly easy to get a test). I had never been up there before, so my instructor took me on 3-4 lessons up there to get a feel for it. In the end, the test route didn't go anywhere near the cross itself and I just ended up driving practically in the countryside. There was one moment where I thought I flubbed it, having to wait in the middle of the road for a space to turn right across traffic, so make sure you know what you're doing there because there's a couple of those lights without dedicated green turn lights. I passed on my first try in Anniesland and overall I would recommend over Shieldhall.

Just remember, if you make a mistake on the cross and end up in a different lane and on some random street - it's not necessarily over for you. Safely get back onto the route with your instructor's directions and you'll be fine. Just don't panic.
