If you’re being reimbursed, take the train to Edinburgh. It’s pretty common for Southsiders to do it. Driving is an absolute nightmare unless you leave very very early. I’ve noticed accidents tend to happen in rush hour and lead to complete standstills too.

Train isn’t perfect - I’ve only been commuting for 1 week and have already faced some issues. But if it’s only for a couple weeks it shouldn’t be too bad for you.

Totally recommend you apply now for a ScotRail railcard - you can buy flexipasses, load it onto the card and it makes your overall journeys a bit cheaper.

Then take the bus to Edinburgh Zoo or wherever is nearest for you. I suggest having a look at which bus is most convenient from Waverley or Haymarket.

Got this from the Zoo’s website:

The following Lothian services pass the zoo every few minutes:

Service 12: Seafield – Leith – Princes Street –Haymarket – Zoo – Gyle Centre
Service 26 : Seton Sands/Tranent – Portobello – City Centre – Zoo – Clerwood
Service 31 : Bonnyrigg – City Centre – Zoo – East Craigs
