| Comment | I am still learning to drive, and I struggle a lot with the gears. What I did was to go to a very quiet place with my wife (who has a license) and then I drove around 2 roundabouts going from 3 to 2 to 3 and all that. Then I would stop, go to 1st, and all that. Just a very small circuit where I had to change gears every 30 seconds or so. This helped me a lot. After a few days doing this it just becomes muscle memory, and it is much easier.
I advise against going automatic, because you won't fail for not having a smooth change of gears, and then if you pass automatic you can only drive automatic.
My general advice would be find someone who is close to you, go to a quiet place, and hit a lot of hours. And then get an instructor for more dangerous places. |
