They *are* interpreting the medical record, otherwise why not just send it wholesale to the uni?

And unfortunately questions could still be asked if something else comes to light. Remember the doctor for the Glasgow bin lorry driver got grilled over his interactions with him, after he signed him as fit to drive based on the patient withholding information from him. That case showed that there is definitely a degree of risk in providing these letters.

Providing letters such as these is not part of the general medical services (GMS) contract that the GP has with the NHS, so they are under no obligation to provide the letter. If they choose to do so, it is as a private service with a charge.
