There isn’t a whole separate private healthcare service- there are specific mostly elective and outpatient based private options but there are certain things that don’t work very well eg maternity care or any acute/emergency care including A&E. There are also significant waits for private services too - some worse than others obviously. Most doctors who do private also do NHS but due to various issues including many people taking early retirement or emigrating or even just cutting back on their private practice requirements.

It’s also very expensive and you will not always be able to get NHS prescriptions depending on who and what is recommending a treatment. Your insurance may exclude pre-existing conditions. If you have to get a private prescription that can be very expensive.

For mental health issues it will depend on what you need but there are some good private counselling therapy or psychology options eg via the Tom Allen centre.
