This is not true. Courts can and do enforce payment of private parking fines.

They are unlikely to pursue it. But sometimes they do and more often than not the courts find in favour of the business.

Look at the case of Carly Mackie. She believed this "private parking fines are illegal and unenforceable in Scotland" myth and racked up more than 200 tickets at a private car park. They pursued her and she had to pay £24,000.

Here's what the judge said:

>She stated that (effectively a protest position) parking charges were illegal and unenforceable in Scotland and that she could park where she liked as her father's guest. She entirely misdirected herself on both the law and the contractual chain in this case.
