Comment | The Labour party within Glasgow itself is historically majority-Catholic (Glasgow District had a Catholic Lord Provost for its entire existence) whilst out in Ayrshire and North Lanarkshire it was dominated by Prods, many of them Orange-flavoured.
During the old Strathclyde region days there was a kind of unspoken compromise where Glasgow Labour would allow the marches for the sake of intra-party and district-region peace. That seems to have continued with Gordon Matheson's electoral pact. |
