I am from Spain, living in Scotland. The system is the same, but different.

In Spain they will set a very high price, way over market, their dream price. People will bid nearer to that price. If you pay their price then it is yours, but most people bid below it. Whoever offers the most, gets it.

In Scotland as you know the price set is lower than the market value. And buyers offer over asking price. Whoever offers the most, gets it.

I think both systems result in very similar prices.

Consider Facebook marketplace and Ebay. Facebook is like Spain where people sets a price and you offer them something lower. Ebay is like Scotland. I would say both platforms offer similar prices.
