Out in Coatbridge, we got two new schools built which amalgamated four schools into two. My school was the first to get built and amalgamated the two, older catholic schools (St Pats and Columba). It had the opposite effect and actually brought many of the rival young teams (which had been separated by the different schools) together. It also didn’t help that St Andrews and Rosehall were, for three years, separated by a patch of grass and a flimsy fence before the new Coatbridge high was completed and the students of the old Rosehall moved up there.

The first two years were genuinely wild. It was only after all the bams started dropping out from third year onwards did things get better.

Funnily that also coincided with the decline of young team culture.
