Comment | Right, own up. Which one of you was it pretending to be an American in the comments section? "Manhattanite Manhattan Oct. 19 Who travels to Glasgow to eat Chinese / Italian food? We New Yorkers can go to Chinatown or Little Italy for that, thank you. Pretty lame suggestion. Rather, there are dozens of “chippies”, fish and chip shops which offer some of the best battered freshest fish in the world, taken from nearby pristine North Sea waters. Yet all the author mentions about these shops is the hackneyed “deep-fried Mars bars”, which few actually eat, compared to the incomparable “fish suppers”. Maybe chippies are too plebeian for her “refined” tastes And the obsession with rain is a gloomy cloud overhanging any good points this article might have. The misty rain is good for the skin, a natural moisturizer. Note what nice complexions the Glaswegians have. Finally, how could anyone write about Glasgow without mentioning some of the most intense football (soccer) fans in the world, the Glasgow Celtics and the Glasgow Rangers? A visit to their stadiums at Parkhead or Ibrox will be more than a memorable sporting event: it will be a revelation of unbridled passion, one of the most memorable events I have experienced in my travels to some 30 countries. Then you can truly sing Harry Lauder’s “Glasgow belongs to me." |
