There have been a few comments regarding cycling on the pavements and precincts. It’s worthwhile pointing out that all of the precincts and some pavements are designated Core Paths. Cycling as well as walking and horse 🐎 riding are all permitted. The vehicles must not be motorised and this is where there is a grey area as some of the bikes have throttles. It’s common sense to be careful around other pedestrians however.

Please however consider that the biggest danger to any pedestrian is a car. This city has terrible issues with speeding and red light jumping drivers and right in busy areas too.

Pedestrian and cyclist road deaths are at the highest levels in decades right now when cars are considered safer and the driving test is harder to pass.

The biggest steps that can be taken to avoid injuries and deaths is to limit the speed of cars to 20mph in urban areas and instil on drivers their huge burden of responsibility to more vulnerable road users as shown in black and white in the Highway Code.
