I work as a police officer in Scotland and can tell you the arrest alone does not mean you can infer anything. I know nothing of this case but if you seriously injure someone regardless of the circumstances, outside of maybe taking down a terrorist in broad daylight, you will be arrested and questioned about it. An arrest is not a punishment. The police have to investigate all serious injuries/death. The police can only ask you about what happened in detail in these circumstances in a police interview, which in Scotland can more or less only take place after an arrest.
