It's cheaper for US production companies to ship a crew, actors etc over here and hire equipment than it is to get a permit to shoot in an American city. Which is kind of crazy. And Glasgow looks a lot like a US city, with its grid system and architecture.

Not saying that's what's happening here specifically, but it is why a lot of big & small US productions have been shot here in the last 15 years.
