There's a lot of research on this actually. Main findings typically are that the negative social consequences which arise are usually a result of social housing having a lack of amenities/jobs/community centres rather than the type or proximity of the homes to each other. That's why so many gangs popped up in Easterhouse and Drumchapel during the mid 20th century. Loads of young guys unable to channel their energy into careers looking for another way to express their masculinity.
