I cycle a lot in glasgow and touch wood haven't had any major issues but do suffer from driver agression very often.
Private hire taxis and black taxis are definitely very dangerous in Glasgow. Most of the agression comes from pot bellied drivers in their 50's and 60's who have frustration in their lives. They possibly look in awe at how fit some cyclists the same age as they are can be and that they could never strive to be like that.
It's entirely up to you of course and I don't speak from experience but when a driver close passes like that then abuses you then one course of action is wing mirror removal. It's a very effective form of retaliation. Just ensure that you are already in a low gear and have an escape route where a car cannot drive such as into a park or cycle path.
If you get doored do not not swerve to avoid the door. Cycle into it and use the drivers legs / body or door as the cushion. They will survive and the door can be repaired. Do not swerve right as there is no time to look at what's coming up behind you. |
