In my opinion there is really only one type of tyre to consider for cycling in Glasgow and that is the Schwalbe Maraton Plus. It's a thick tyre with great grip and works in all weather conditions.

Regardless of the tyre type you need to be careful in the wet and use techniques to prevent a traction loss. Avoid iron work on the roads, if you can't then don't turn whilst on them. If bouncing up a kerb make sure your angle of attack is as close to 90 degrees as possible. Avoid oil and fuel spills on the road and keep away from leaves or at least don't turn when going over them. It's all just common sense really.

For extra piece of mind fit Schwalbe Air Plus inner tubes as well. They are thicker walled and go a long way to preventing punctures from Glasgow's glass covered roads and paths.

Another good tyre is the Continental Double Fighter which has a very slick tyre face for riding in the city. I have them on one of my bikes and it's like riding on ice and still has great grip. You can still use the Air Plus tubes with this or any other tyre.
