Those that are suggesting flying, just remember you still need to get from the airport to the city (or wherever you are going). The Stanstead and Gatwick express trains can cost more than the cheap flight down. Heathrow is very easy to get to and from now the Elizabeth line is open (£12.80).

I’ve done the Megabus before, and whilst it’s the cheapest, it’s also the longest. It stops at motorway services for long periods to let the driver rest, and if you have anything to do as soon as you arrive, you’ll be knackered - bear this in mind if you were heading down for something important like an interview.

[Split My Fair](https://www.splitmyfare.co.uk/) is a good site for train tickets - it will work out the cheapest combination of tickets to get you where you want to be, often on the same train, so you don’t need to change.
