if you are on benefits, you can get counselling off of spark for free. i find that often non-nhs services are way better at dealing with trauma or personal pain than nhs services, bc often it’s just medication or cbt

i was very cynical about medication bc of bad experiences with sertraline but venlafaxine was a life-saver as i can now function a lot better than i used to. i think cbt can be helpful wrt to irrational thoughts caused by depression/anxiety/ocd etc - like for example thinking that you have a large dent in your forehead. but people treat it like a one size fits all, especially when it comes to perceptions that are based in reality, for example interpersonal problems that don’t go away.

i found that the services outside the nhs i was referred to were more compassionate and understanding than say, the services in the southside. my partner was involved with a counselling service for grief and it steered into discussing serious issues similar to yours. help is available. i can offer more details if you want.
