I don't know if the ticket machine informs them as well but for the last few years, drivers have been paying attention to the maximum capacity numbers for buses. They are supposed to ignore stops and drive past people until they are below max passenger load.

As well as inspectors, they have to worry about other passengers reporting them for being overloaded.

Bus drivers also sometimes are instructed to ignore stops by the control office for a variety of reasons. If there's been an incident or spillage on the bus, they're supposed to proceed to the depot but some drivers will keep passengers already on the bus and let them off at stops on the way to the depot.

If you think the driver is just being a fanny and you're wanting to place a complaint, ideally you want the exact date, time, location, stop number (if available), the registration plate and if you can see the bus ID number.
