As to answer the question.

I am very lucky to have quite randomly stumbled into tech just without much direction and happening to be good at mucking around with computers when I was in school.

In terms of a career it's hard to think of much better, it has been very well paid, I get about as much flexibility as is possible including being able to live in other countries and it's taken me around the world in terms of sponsored travel.

The downside is it can be quite cliquey and consuming, a lot of people will form their entire life around their job which can be unhealthy and lead to burnout.

It's very fulfilling to be able.to work on things that are widely used by millions and there is usually a period of naive optimism at the start of careers where you believe the work you are doing is to the benefit of humanity, with more experience that changes and even working for a non profit it can be hard to not worry that you arent working in an industry that is actively harming society (see crypto) but that part is a lot down to what you make of it.
