As a cyclist myself this is a horriic story. The driver was impatient to begin with and was aggrieved that you were in front of him. He had no regard whatsover for your personal safety.

I hope that there is enough evidence to convict them and that you make a full recovery soon.

The consequences for drivers who commit acts like this are far too lenient. As others have said the driving licence should be revoked and for some great length of time. It should only be returned after a new driving test is completed. I think that should be the norm everytime a licence is revoked.

In England and Wales causing death by dangerous driving after June 2022 can result in a sentence of life imprisonment but not in Scotland. Additinally causing serious injury whilst driving can result in 2 years behind bars. It's shocking that the Scottish Government decided not to adopt the same penalties specifically when there is a clear benefit to road safety.

In Scotland new sentencing guidelines are due to come into effect in January 2024 but will still not result in a possible life sentence when convicted. The maximum sentence will be 12 years in the most aggravating circumstances for causing the death of a cyclist or pedestrian but no change in the sentencing for causing serious injury. Not good enough.
