It's clear and well documented that there isn't enough student accommodation in Glasgow so it's surprising to see this development denied. We need less students in private lets that free up the space for non-students to live in.

There is an overall lack of rental accommodation in this city and others and the only way to drive down prices is to have more of it. What I found appealing about the new development is that there would be no provision for cars. That is forward thinking and this should be the norm for all new accommodation blocks in the city centre.

The advantages for students are that the purpose built rooms are ready to go with nothing for students to worry about like council tax, rent deposits, buying furniture, laundry, getting broadband, dealing with utilities and everything else you need to deal with in a private let. It means that you have more time to do what is important, like studying. Although we all know that many don't do as much of that as they should. Students also spend money in the local businesses and that's great for the city.

During the summer the buildings are used for visitors to the city so they really do get used all year round.
