Individualism is based around the goals on an individual, and that can be to fit in with a specific group or to achieve social/career status. It’s not anti status quo, individualistic people don’t necessarily want to be different, but individualistic people believe they should be free pursue their goals at the expense of others in their community. They act on behalf of the individual.

Having perspective in thinking about how their actions affect others is the opposite of individualism, it’s collectivism.
