I got a CD diagnosis about 7 years ago myself. You’re right - eating out is difficult/risky as most people don’t understand cross-contamination. On the plus side, EU food labelling in shops is now excellent compared to when I was diagnosed.

You should have been given a free membership to the coeliac UK charity - basically the governing body. Sign up with them if you haven’t already.
They have a list of ‘coeliac uk accredited restaurants’ that you can look at where they’ve passed the necessary tests/education.
You can also call them for free advice and speak to dieticians etc.

There’s also a coeliac uk Glasgow division that arrange burns suppers and things like that throughout the year. I can put you in touch with them if you can’t find them.

To be honest you’re probably imagining the staff being arsey. I always used to feel like that at first as I felt guilty and like I was being a nightmare customer but they’re used to it. Be prepared to be glutened, though, any time you take the risk sadly.

Feel free to PM me about anything.
