Something you might consider is going to see Newcastle. By train it is around 2:30h each way, but they play in the EPL so all the games are very good. If you like football, I recommend it. Another possibility is going to Manchester or Liverpool, this would be like 3:30h by train. But Newcastle is cheaper and easier to get seats.
