I know there was a slave by the name of James Montogomerie in Glasgow in the 1800s who was brought from Virginia to be taught how to be a carpenter and then refused to return to Virginia after receiving his training. When they tried to force him onto a boat in Port Glasgow he escaped and ran away to Edinburgh where he was eventually captured - but he died in jail there before he could be sentenced.

Whether or not this ties in to these streets being renamed I have no idea - but I would expect the likelihood to be high that it has *something* to do with "cleansing" our rather sordid history of enslavement, as that area is full of extremely fancy townhouses that belonged to the "old rich" who controlled Glasgows port trades back in the day - all of which benefited from slavery.
